Flex to Flash is like Ajax to JavaScript.
It's another interface, tag-based language, editor and approach meant to make the "Flash" people not think about Flash as a designer's tool.
It is Macromedia's way of pushing Flash where the $$ are.
The same thing happened with JavaScript. There are so many things you can do with it (see the new Ajax apps) that it needed another name, so that developers will not be scared away and think about some mouse trays when talking about JavaScript.
Same thing happened with the Microsoft people and their Frontpage product. The only memory I have about it is that it generates that crappy code inside my page (all absolute DIVs :O)...
Well, believe it or not, this has changed. And it has not changed yesterday, it changed some years ago (That's what one of the Frontpage managers told me at PDC at least).
And you know what? Maybe they too need to change the product name to make it competitive again, or just wait for a new generation of developers...
